On Sunday May 16th Devon and I biked our first mountain pass of the season. We aren't playing in the hills of southern Ohio anymore. Ouch! McClure pass is located on the Western side of the Elk Mountains roughly 22 miles south of Carbondale, Colorado. We gained 1,563 feet of elevation over 8.5 miles with an average grade of 2.1%, maximum grade of 9.0%.
I am proud to report that my wife cruised up this thing with ease. I on the other hand, kept wishing my machine would magically grow more gears. Still trying to work off that winter weight. The afore mentioned "bulk" along with the help of gravity did prove to be advantageous on the descent, for I was able to reach 47 mph!
One down, more come.......
